The Worcester Plinth at Fort Royal Park, with Worcester Cathedral behind: displaying ‘The Gulls’ by Sarah Dukes.
What is The Worcester Plinth?
The Worcester Plinth is a mobile public art display unit that tours Worcester the city squares, housing estates, parks and public spaces. Each artwork spends 28 days on site before the unit moves on. In November 2026 our eleventh commission, ‘Hands of Worcester’ by Jessica Mary Monk, funded by Arts Council England will be launched.
The unit is a 10ft shipping container fitted with solar panels and a battery system, so artwork can be illuminated on a timer every night. Delivery and collection take under 30 minutes once the artwork is removed, keeping disruption to a site to an absolute minimum. The Plinth is delivered and sited with the help of Worcester Containers Ltd, and is supported by Worcester City Council (almost every city councillor is taking part in the current artwork), together with the City’s Parks and Planning departments and Worcestershire County Council Highways.
Why Host The Worcester Plinth?
The Plinth lets you show something publicly on a much bigger scale than a wall, window or noticeboard ever could. It is simple to host: a big box, artwork mounted on top, and it lights up at night.
- Scale: people walking past stop and take notice, and the work gets talked about.
- Presence: displayed high up and largely out of easy reach, so it stays on show and looks after itself.
- Visibility after dark: the display is illuminated every night, extending its reach after daylight hours.
What We’re Offering Venues
The Worcester Plinth gives organisations and individuals across the city the chance to display our or your outdoor public art anywhere our truck can access. That could be for one night only to support an event such as a private view or a degree show; a weekend to support a festival; or up to 28 days for an exhibition or to display our artwork.
How It Works

Ideal Uses
- A single night, supporting an opening, private view or degree show.
- A weekend, supporting a festival, market or community event.
- Up to 28 days, supporting a full public exhibition.
Safety & Insurance
- We hold SWQR certification for signing, lighting and guarding during siting and collection.
- Full Public Liability and Employer’s Liability insurance is in place for artworks while on display.
- Please note: this cover does not extend to damage to the artwork itself, so hosts and artists should arrange their own cover for the piece where this is a concern.
Where We’ve Been
The Plinth has already toured ten locations including South Quay, Brickfields/Warndon, Cathedral Square and Fort Royal Park, Landsdowne Road and is always looking for more hosts across the city.
