The Worcester Plinth is seeking artist proposals for its next stage of development. Previously based on the Screen House, the remaining building of Worcester’s old Power Station, ‘The Plinth’ is now moving to a variety of locations across the city of Worcester.
We are after two 2025 art works that will each move to four different locations beginning at The Cathedral Plaza Square in the heart of Worcester. But we also need to develop a programme of art – a pipeline of artworks into the future if you like. These artworks might be made for The Worcester Plinth or be existing works already made and just loaned to us for four months.
The artwork will be mounted onto The Worcester Plinth which is now to be a 8ft high small shipping container painted up by our Heart of Worcester College team – see attached illustration for the idea of how the artwork and Plinth will look.

The container and artwork will be moved around locations around the city. Each artwork will be located in four prominent locations for exactly 28 days each.
Type of artwork:
It can be three dimensional or flat, facing one or all directions
Size: To fit on/within a floor area of 10ft x 8ft – the size of the roof of the shipping container base. If you want to overhang the container in any way that may be ok but think about people jumping up and grabbing it. We suggest the artwork isn’t more than 8ft tall but we are open to higher if we can support it successfully.
Demountable: The artwork and the Plinth will move every 28 days and the artwork needs to be removable and then re-erected at the next location without too much trouble. It is likely to be demounted, moved and re-erected on Monday or Tuesday mornings.
Fixing: We will attach a scaffolding frame to the roof of the Plinth in a configuration to suit your artwork, please include thoughts on how that would work best for your piece and how it would fix to the frame.
Lighting; We will have a solar panel/battery lighting system to illuminate the artwork in the hours of darkness.
Beyond The Plinth; We would like to ensure that your artwork has a life beyond its time on The Worcester Plinth. A long term location or plan for your piece would be good.
The Worcester Plinth team are open to all kinds of responses for the space from a range of artistic disciplines. These could include work that is designed for the space as well as borrowed work from new and existing artists. We strongly advise you to visit the space before submitting.
Thanks to the generous funding from the Elmley Foundation and Worcester City Council there are funds of £1,350 for each of the two art works from two artists/collectives. These costs include design, build, installation and removal. We would be interested in using these funds for any partnership work from interested parties. Each artwork will be displayed for at least one month per location and should be suitable for the outdoor space. We are especially interested in work that and relates to Worcester(shire) in some way.
Timings: We need our first to go up on 9.6.25 (and be on display till 22.9.25) and the second around mid-November to mid-March. The first will be part of the launch of the whole new Pop-Up Worcester Plinth concept.
The amount we can pay the artist for each artwork is £1350.

In the first instance please send us artist proposals of no more than two pages of A4 with at least two images. The proposal should include: Your artist idea, how the work can be installed, any previous experience of working in the area of public sphere and budget.
